Patrick Bouliane is General Manager of the Point S mechanical garage in Granby-Farnham. He has been working in the field of automobile mechanics and tires for more than 20 years. We met with Patrick to discuss their compressed air network and some of the challenges they face on a regular basis. In the case of Point S, we proposed a solution that dealt mostly with efficiency and performance. “In the tire business, there are two peak seasons where the appointments are stacked every minute of the day. During these periods, it is essential that our tools operate at full efficiency. The compressed air network is the lifeline of our operation and is in very high demand since all the tools must work at the same time. Air drops or insufficient air volume impairs tool performance. When a mechanic is faced with a jammed lug nut, a lack of air pressure prevents the tool from completing the task efficiently, resulting in slower productivity. The nature of our business is about time efficiency and quality of the work. When a job takes longer than what we had scheduled, it produces a chain reaction that disrupts the entire schedule. The success of our company is directly related to respecting the schedule of appointments. The quality of our air tools and an efficient, reliable compressed air network are essential.''
Hose reel not only increase efficiency but also provide an important safety component. When not in use, having hoses out of harm’s way creates a cleaner, safer work environment. Hose reel also protect the hoses and increase service life while decreasing maintenance costs.
The diameter of the plug determines the volume of air (SCFM) that will flow through the air hose. To improve the efficiency of the air tools, a high flow coupler/plug combination must be used. Using a short anti-hose whip between the tool and the quick coupler will isolate the vibration from the coupler, extend its life and reduce the chances of whipping.
