Check Valves and Flow Control Valves Buying Guide

Choosing the correct valve for your compressed air system can significantly impact the efficiency and safety of your operations. This guide covers six critical types of valves, their applications, features and how to select the best one for your needs.

Cylinder Flow Control Valves

Ideal for controlling cylinder speeds, even at low speeds. Allows controlled flow of air in one direction and maximum flow in the opposite direction. Can be mounted in-line with a retaining lock nut to prevent accidental needle loss.

Check Valves

Prevents pressure loss in case of air supply failures. Allows free flow from the inlet to the work port and blocks reverse flow.

Selection Tips

Material: Brass for higher pressure and temperature ranges; Aluminum alloy for standard conditions.

Cracking Pressure: Check the minimum pressure required to open the valve.

Exhaust Valves

Sensitive diaphragm relief for controlled pressure release. An adjustment knob acts as a miniature regulator for precise adjustments.

OR Logic Valves

Directs flow from two sources to a standard outlet, selecting the higher pressure. Automatically connects the outlet to the high-pressure side.

AND Logic Valves

Requires airflow from two sources for activation. Provides an output upon nearly concurrent operation of two inlets.

Selection Tips

Operational Needs: Ensure your system requires the AND logic function for safety or control.

Material: Anodized aluminum for durability and corrosion resistance.

Now that you better understand each valve, here are some general guidelines to consider. When deciding which valve is right for you, it is always important to consider materials, pressure and temperature compatibility, and flow capacity. Additionally, compatibility and operating environment should also be considered.

Compatibility

Emphasize the importance of ensuring the valves are compatible with the existing system components, such as tubing sizes and connection types.

Operating Environment

Consider the environmental conditions where the valves will be used. If they will be exposed to corrosive substances, high temperatures, or outdoor conditions, material choice and sealing should be highlighted.

By understanding these valves' features, specifications, and applications, you can select the best options for your compressed air system. Match the valve's specifications with your operational requirements for optimal performance and safety.
